Color Online Exhibition, Juror Diana Bloomfield
8/5 - 8/27/22
The Juror’s Choice goes to “Strolling through the Light Industrial Zone.” The use of color is obviously integral to this image, but that’s not its only strength. I was drawn to the powerful composition and the strategic use of light. So many paths the photographer could have taken in composing this image, and the final choices made seem perfect. The light and the color exploit the repetition of form and shape throughout— from diagonal to vertical to horizontal lines, which all somehow point to this small figure— to the repetition of circles and triangles. I love that those soft diagonal shadows on the garage door point straight to the figure in red — a central element offering a wonderful sense of movement and fluidity. She is not lost in her surroundings. I also appreciate that the photographer chose to include those chaotic wires in the sky, which say so much about our needs and our impact on our surroundings. They also appear oddly primitive, contrasting with 21st century technology — a contrast emphasized by the woman who looks like she might be carrying a cell phone. Such a powerful image, and smart use of color.
Thank you all so much for submitting to this exhibition and allowing me the chance to view your work.
