The Magic of Light

Michael Pannier, Juror

8/15 - 9/30/25

It’s all about the light! Light and shadow have been the foundation of photography since the beginning. While illumination is important, darkness is an equally compelling component and, together, the elements of a successful photograph.

Telling Tales

Frances Jakubek, Juror

8/22 - 9/22/25

A Single image can have a powerful storytelling impact, change the way we see, and leave a lasting impression. Often, a signature image or motif is associated with an artist or photographer or project. We’re looking for images that stand on their own, able to tell a story without supporting images.

The Modern Nude

William Earle, Juror

6/15 - 7/30/25

The fine art nude has been a celebrated subject of photography since the beginning and played an important role in establishing photography as a fine art medium. Early on, both in history and most photographers experience, the nude has been featured in a classical pose and setting, maturing to illustrating the human body as a sculptural abstraction, and with some pushing boundaries.

Flora & Fauna

Darrell Gulin, Juror

5/1 - 5/30/25

Artists throughout the ages have been drawn to the vast and varied world of flora. What moves you? Do you celebrate the essence of beauty or strive to heighten recognition of the perilous path of our environment? Or is it the fauna, all the animal life of a particular region. We live with animals daily - wildlife, farmed, caged or free, many are our best friends, some we fear, yet others we admire.

Women by Women

Elinor Carucci, Juror

3/1-3/31/25

The history of photography has a long tradition of representing women as subjects but has less to say about women as artists. Today, the roles of women in photography are both behind the camera and in front of it. Who understands women better than women? The female perspective offers an important view of the many facets of womanhood and women’s role in society.

Grace Weston: Reclaiming the Muse

2/1 - 3/30/25

In her series, RECLAIMING THE MUSE, she reframes historic artworks and stories in contemporary terms to challenge the dominant doctrine of the patriarchal culture through an intersectional feminist lens.

When centering women, historically cast as objects of beauty or scorn, she aims to revitalize the muse with agency, furthering the issues important to me as a contemporary female artist in my contemporary Western society. She also challenges narrow views of sexuality which operate to oppress and limit the broad nature of identity, self-expression and attraction.
