The genesis of my surreal light-centric photography was my father’s death in 2020. He was an improvisational jazz musician, and encouraged me to let go of creative control. His influence on my camera-based photography continues to be profound, and I have come to embrace my creative practice as a collaboration with him; my photographs are a continuation of our conversations on the subjects of music and creativity, and a resounding response to his last request to “rejoice!”
In the intervening years, my photography has become an exploration of how camera optics can reveal imagery inaccessible to the human eye. The resulting photographs of pure light are single exposures created entirely “in-camera.”
